So everyone that knows me knows that I am obsessed all things pink and rose gold. So for my wedding I took some inspiration off of Pinterest and decided to do the wedding of my dreams – rose gold style.
Getting married abroad I knew that I was limited in what I could do at home, well I thought I was limited – but ended up taking 7 suitcases of just decor! Yes, the wedding still went ahead and my husband still wanted to marry me (more fool him right?). I was getting married in a rustic tavern, a very traditional venue in Cyprus and wanted to incorporate this rustic vibe into my wedding. So a rustic rose gold and pink vibe. Sounds easy enough right? So I trawled and trawled through Pinterest trying to get ideas and here was my inspiration:
So as you can see it was a very “light” vibe, if that even makes sense?! I wanted it pretty chilled, so decided on a BBQ for dinner and no seating plan, I didn’t want anyone to feel restricted and it worked for us. We were extremely fortunate to have over 70 guests fly out for a wedding, we have great family and friends and there was no issue with the no seating plan – everyone sat where they wanted.
So I trawled Ali Express and Hobbycraft like a gooden (it was a good job I had a great bunch of bridesmaids to come round and wedding prep galore – cheers girls). We done a lot of DIY so spray painted all the jars, frames and mirrors with copper paint and got flowers from Dunelm Mill and made up lots of bouquets. I must say I still have all these round my house and beauty studio now so really was worth the money, compared to flowers in Cyprus that only last a day (although our fresh flowers were BEAUTIFUL). I managed to even buy all the table cloths and chair bows off of Ali Express and ended up being cheaper than hiring them (plus I still have them for parties).
I was quite lucky as I managed to get the bridesmaid dresses off of Secret Sales. They were Chi Chi London dresses and were £80 down to £30 and when you have 7 bridesmaids (tell me about it) it really did help keep costs down. I would always say its worth keeping an eye on sale sites, including eBay and Marketplace as you can find some really good deals on them.
I also added a bit of “quirk” into the wedding. I LOVE Harry Potter and my husband loves Superheroes – we are the epitome of cool, so decided to add a little bit of this into the wedding. We decided to do 2 sides of the cake, a flower style cake opened up at the back to reveal superheroes. For the Harry Potter side of things we decided to have “LUMOS”, which is a spell to bring light (I know, I know) on the stage, overlooking the dancefloor. I loved these little bits of our personality injected into the wedding as it just made it feel a bit different.
The scariest part I would say for me was the beauty side of it. Obviously if you have your wedding locally you are able to have a trial way before your wedding day, you can try multiple MUA’s out and even get recommendations. But I had NO idea what my lady was going to be like, didn’t even know her name but I was very fortunate and she was amazing. Listened to what I wanted and was so good in such heat (I was BAKING). I actually ended up struggling more with my Wedding Party over here – my MUA let me down last minute so I was stuck doing my own makeup. Which doesn’t seem that big a deal, I was about to train to be an MUA right? But I just wanted everything perfect, so it did put a dampner on getting ready – but was fine once I was and actually I liked the way my makeup looked in the end.
It was definitely stressful but I was so happy with how it turned out. Here are a few pics from our wedding to give you a vibe of what it looked like.
I hope you have enjoyed a little insight into my wedding and can maybe take some ideas from our DIY decor. What was your favourite DIY projects from your wedding? If you have any questions or want to know more, just give me a message or comment below.
